Vaginal Yeast Infection Causes and Symptoms
Yeast infections are caused by a naturally occurring fungus, well-known as Candida albicans. This fungus is found in tiny amounts inside of your vagina, as well as in your mouth and digestive tract. Candida yeast is generally kept in balance by the acidic environment inside of your vagina. However, from time to time this acidic environment can become out of balance, causing the candida fungus to grow rapidly. This overgrowth of candida yeast in the vagina is well-known as a vaginal yeast infection. More than 75% of women experience at least one yeast infection at some point in their lives.
The candida yeast can also grow quickly in damp and warm environments. For this reason, wearing tight clothing, damp bathing suits, or frequent douching can also lead to a vaginal yeast infection.

The primary cause of yeast infection in woman is fungus – primarily Candida albicans. Along with some other types of bacteria, Candida albicans are usually present in small amounts in the vaginal area. However, the bacteria becomes a cause for concern when it multiples rapidly, becoming a yeast infection also known by the medical terms of candidiasis or monilia.
If you wear nylon underwear or tightly fitting nylons, shorts or pajama bottoms, you may be setting yourself up for a change in vaginal pH balance. Try to wear cotton panties that breath well. Don’t wear damp bathing suits for long periods of time.
