A sinus is a hollow space within the bones of the face. The sinuses are lined by delicate membrane. The membrane is called mucosa. The function of the sinuses is to humidify and warm the air, add to the sense of smell and to play a significant role in the quality of human sound. It is known that during acute sinusitis, rhinitis and common cold, the quality of our voice changes and the senses of smell and taste are reduced.

Infection in a sinus causes a secretion of fluid. Usually this fluid will drain away through the small opening into the nose. If the fluid is very thick and the lining of the sinus blocks the opening then sometimes the fluid will not drain away.

Sinus infections can cause a lot of ache and uneasiness. Occasionally, the infection can also lead to certain brain infections or other chronic problems.

What are the symptoms of a sinus infection?

of a sinus infection generally follows a cold, your nose is blocked, your head hurts, eyes look puffy, red, face pain around the temple and eyes, and kind of a squelchy noise if you touch around sides of bridge of nose as the cavity is filled with fluid, sometimes a sore ear and jaw pain,blowing nose of green mucous, a metallic taste and a foul sort of smell sensation when you breath in /up the nose. It is best to get to a Dr as can a nuisance to treat it so if the cold appears to go away,then head/face hurts in central area, and maybe a higher temp after seemingly getting over your virus, a trip for some antibiotics is on the cards.

Sinus Infection Treatment

Though there is no effective remedy for sinus infections, a lot of comfort can be gained by treating the sinus symptoms like headaches, nasal discharge, nasal blocking, runny nose, ear/neck/cheek/jaw pain, swelling of eyelids, etc. However, acute or chronic sinus infections require prolonged treatments, comprised of antibiotics or therapies like saline nasal rinses, topical/oral decongestants, antihistamines, mucolytic agents, and intranasal corticosteroids.
