What is Shingles (Herpes Zoster)?
Shingles is a disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus – the same virus that causes chickenpox. After you have chickenpox, the virus stays in your body. It may not cause problems for many years. As you get older, the virus may reappear as shingles. Unlike chickenpox, you can’t catch shingles from someone who has it. The pain can be mild to severe. Blisters then form and last from one to 14 days. If shingles appears on your face, it may affect your vision or hearing.
Shingles Causes:
Shingles are caused by the same virus that caused Chicken Pox, Varicella zoster virus (VZV) most of us get chickenpox during childhood, but after we recover the virus remains inactive in nerve cells, and at times is reactivated in later on life, causing Shingles.

How long does the shingles usually last?
The visible symptoms of shingles generally lasts 2 weeks. The full period with skin soreness usually lasts about a month.
Is shingles dangerous during pregnancy?
If untreated then yes shingles during pregnancy can be dangerous. But, there are antiviral drugs that your doctor will give you even during pregnancy if you have shingles that are safe.
It is true that most the infections are transmitted through the blood flow and this means that to a pregnant woman who is infected with shingles, that the virus can be transmitted to the fetus.
