Phlegm is a general ailment. All of us suffers from it at one point in time or the other. Phlegm may be the result of a variety of illnesses. It can be the by product of a basic seasonal flu virus or it may be the result of allergic reactions or even sinusitis. It may also be triggered by viral or bacterial infections such as influenza, bronchitis, pneumonia; it could be the result of a certain lifestyle. When you have a cold it might be yellowish brown. If there’s an infection, it

might be greenish brown. Normal phlegm is usually clear.

Phlegm Symptoms

Phlegm has a gel like consistency and its presence is usually indicated by the constant need for throat clearing, difficulty breathing normally shortness of breath, constant cough, which in turn may lead to muscle weakening and soreness, runny nose, and in some cases it might even lead to a fever.

Causes of Phlegm

Phlegm is caused by bacterial infections such as bronchitis, influenza, and pneumonia. Other causes include viral infections, allergies, or irritants inhaled during smoking.
