So What Is Ringworm?
Ringworm is a very common skin disorder otherwise known as tinea. While there are multiple forms of ringworm, the most common affect the skin on the body (tinea corporis), the scalp (tinea capitis), the feet (tinea pedis, or ‘athlete’s foot’), or the groin (tinea cruris, or ‘jock itch’).
What Causes Ringworms
A fungus called tinea causes ringworm. The fungus can be spread by direct contact with infected people or animals. It also might be spread on clothing or furniture. Heat and humidity might help to spread the infection.
Ringworm Symptoms
Ringworm of the scalp generally begins as a tiny blemish that becomes bigger, leaving scaly patches of temporary baldness. Infected hairs become brittle and break off easily. Yellowish crusty areas occasionally develop.
Ringworm of the body shows up as a flat, round patch anywhere on the skin with the exception of the scalp and feet. The groin is a regular area of infection (groin Ringworm). Ringworm Treatments
Generally ringworm of the skin can be treated at home with home remedies or with creams you can buy without a prescription.
Ringworm Diet
Try to have lots of fruit three times a day. Fresh juicy fruits such as apples, oranges, papayas, pineapples, and pomegranates are great.
Good To Know:
Ringworm spreads from person-to-person by touch. When someone with ringworm touches or scratches the rash, the fungus sticks to the fingers or gets under the fingernails. The fungus is then spread when that person touches someone else. Ringworm of the scalp can also spread if combs and hairbrushes are shared. Contaminated objects – such as linen and towels – can indirectly spread the contagious fungus. Ringworm can take 10 to 14 days to develop on the scalp and 4 to 10 days for other areas.
